- From the decrease in the index by:
*2% in the “Communications” group, mainly due to a decrease in prices in: mobile telephone equipment, telephone services.
While, the general index showed a decrease of 1.2% in October 2022 compared to September 2022, against an increase of 1.5% recorded during the corresponding comparison of the previous year.
As for the harmonized inflation, it increased by 9.5% in October this year, against an increase 2.8% that occurred in October last year. In a monthly comparison, the harmonized index showed a decrease of 1.2%, compared to an increase of 1.1% recorded in the corresponding comparison of the previous year.
In particular, inflation was 9.1% in October, from 12% in September, according to the data announced by the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT).
Revaluations were recorded, across the range of products and services, except telephone services.
Especially , within a year the prices increased in: Natural gas (68.4%), Solid fuels (23.3%), Heating oil (20.8%), Fuels and lubricants (17.8%) and Electricity (7 .4%). In the so-called “household basket”, there were price increases in: Dairy products and eggs (24.2%), Bread and cereals (19.3%), Meat in general (17.3%), Oils and fats (16.6%) , Coffee – cocoa – tea (13.4%), Vegetables in general (13.2%), Other food (12%), Mineral water – soft drinks – fruit juices (6.1%), Sugar – chocolates – sweets – ice cream (6.1%), Alcoholic beverages not served (5.4%), Fruits in general (3.9%) and Fish in general (2.4%). While, in the rest of the products and services, there were revaluations in: Clothing and footwear (5.4%), House rents (1.6%), Home repair and maintenance (4.2%), Utilities (1.5%) , Furniture and decorative items (5.7%), Household appliances and repairs (5.6%), Glassware – tableware and household utensils (6.8%), Household consumables (16.1%), Household services (8%), Pharmaceutical products (5.9%), Medical products (3.2%), Medical-dental and paramedical services (1.4%), Hospital care (0.6%), New cars (12 .3%), Used cars (19.4%), Mopeds-motorcycles (8.4%), Car parts and accessories (10.3%), Maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment (2.8%), Passenger transport by taxi (32.9%), Transport of passengers by plane (30.6%), Transport of passengers by ship (26.7%), Durable leisure and cultural goods (3.9%), Small leisure items – flowers – pets animals (2.6%), Cinemas-theatres (14.3%), Stationery and design materials (9.6%), Package holidays (12%), Primary education (2.4%), Secondary education (2 .5%), Restaurants-patisseries-cafes-canteens (7%), Hotels-motels-inns (20.2%), Hairdressers and personal care shops (2.7%) and ‘Other types of personal care (8.4 %).
Between October and September, prices fell in Natural gas (52.8%), Heating oil (11.2%) and Electricity (2 .9%), however, they increased in Motor oil (11.2%) and Car fuel – gasoline (2.3%). In the household basket, there were price increases in: Pasta (7.2%), Fresh vegetables (5.5%), Potatoes (3.5%), Fresh whole milk (3.4%), Bread (2%) , Lamb and goat (2%), Cheese (1.8%), Fresh fruit (1.4%), Olive oil (1.3%), Pork (1%) and Veal (0.8%), while decreased the prices in Fresh fish (3.6%). In the rest of the range of products and services, appreciations were recorded in: Clothing and footwear (3.5%), House rents (0.5%), Household consumer goods (1%), Household services (5.5%), Cars new (0.8%), Used cars (3%), Air passenger transport (1.7%), Restaurants-patisseries-cafes (0.5%) and Hairdressers and personal care shops (1.5%). On the contrary, prices decreased in Hotels-motels-inns (7.7%).
As ELSTAT announced, from the comparison of the general consumer price index in October 2022 with the corresponding indicator of October 2021 resulted in an increase of 9.1%, compared to an increase of 3.4% that occurred during the corresponding comparison in 2021 with 2020.
This increase came mainly from the changes in the following groups of goods and services:
- From the increases in the indicators by:
*14.8% in the “Food and non-alcoholic beverages” group, due mainly to price increases in: bread and cereals, meats (general), fish (general), dairy and eggs, oils and fats, fruits (general), vegetables (general), sugar-chocolates-sweets-ice creams, other foods, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices.
*2.2% in the group “Alcoholic beverages and tobacco”, due mainly to an increase in prices of alcoholic beverages (not served).
*5.4% in the “Clothing and footwear” group, due to price increases in clothing and footwear.
*11.2% in “Housing” group, mainly due to price increases in: house rents, home repair and maintenance, utilities, electricity, natural gas, heating oil, solid fuels.
*10.6% in the group “Durable goods – Household items and services”, due to price increases mainly in: furniture and decorative items, household appliances and repairs, glassware – tableware and household utensils, household goods for direct consumption, household services.
*2.7% in the “Health” group, mainly due to price increases in: pharmaceutical products, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, hospital care.
*13.8% in the “Transportation” group, mainly due to price increases in: new cars, used cars, mopeds-motorcycles, spare parts and car accessories, fuel and lubricants, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, taxi passenger tickets, air passenger tickets, boat passenger tickets.
* 2.5% in the “Leisure-Cultural activities” group, due to price increases mainly in: leisure and cultural durable goods, small leisure items – flowers – pets, cinemas-theatres, stationery and design materials, holiday package. Part of this increase was offset by the decrease in prices mainly in audio-visual equipment – computers – repairs.
*2% in the “Education” group, due mainly to an increase in prices in: primary education fees, secondary education fees.
- SEPTEMBER 2022. Inflation in Greece “climbed” to 12.1% in September, according to the data announced by Eurostat. A month ago, in August, annual inflation in our country stood at 11.4%, according to the Greek Statistical Authority, and at 11.2%, according to Eurostat. Overall in the eurozone inflation rose to 10.0% in September, from 9.1% in August. Of the remaining states, the highest annual inflation is recorded in Estonia (24.2%), Lithuania (22.5%), Latvia (22.4%) and the Netherlands (17.1%).
- According to Eurostat data, energy prices increased by 40.8% in September – from 38.6% in August, while food, alcohol, tobacco prices by 11.8% – against 10.6 in August) .

- Inflation moved to very high levels, as according to the data announced by ELSTAT, in August it reached 11.4% – compared to a year ago – while in July it had reached 11.6%.
- Despite the slight deceleration in the rate of inflation, in the last 12 months significant appreciations were recorded both in the energy sector and in food, holiday package and services. In particular, there were price increases in Natural gas (261.3%), Heating oil (65.1%), Electricity (38.5%), Fuels and lubricants (21.5%) and Solid fuels (11.4%) .
- POMIDA points out that at a time when daily reports abound about an alleged dramatic increase in rental housing, based on a minimal number of “probationary” lease ads, and during the same period, according to the official data from ELSTAT the increase in residential rents was only 0.8% and the impact of residential rents on the increase in the General Consumer Price Index was only 0.03%!Nevertheless, in the “Housing” group of ELSTAT it is mentioned an increase of 31.4% for which the increase in rental houses is listed as the first culprit, while in fact the burden on this group comes from the increase in electricity (70.4%), heating oil (65.1%), natural gas (117.7%) and solid fuels (8.1% strong>) !!! While, between August and July, in energy there were revaluations in Natural gas (42.8%) and Solid fuels (2.3%). On the contrary, prices decreased in Electricity (11%) and Fuels and lubricants (7.9%). At the same time, price increases continued in Ice creams (6.2%), Pharmaceutical products (5.7%), Sauces-condiments (5%), Cold meats (3.9%), Dairy products and eggs (2.5%), Items for immediate household consumption (2.3%), Coffee (1.9%), Pork (1.6%), Beef (1.5%), Preserved or processed vegetables (1.5%), Other items of individual care (1.5%), Fresh fruit (1.3%), Bread and cereals (1.2%), Fish in general (0.9%), Hospital care (0.5%), Restaurants- pastry shops- cafes (0.5%) and New cars (0.4%).
Comparison of August 2022 with August 2021
The increase in the General CPI by 11.4% in the month of August 2022, compared to the corresponding Index of August 2021, came mainly from from changes in the following groups of goods and services:
1. Of the index increases by:
• 13.2% in the group Food and non-alcoholic beverages, mainly due to price increases in: bread and cereals, meat (general), fish (general), dairy and eggs, oils and fats, fruit (general), vegetables (general), sugar-chocolate-sweets-ice cream, other foods, coffee-cocoa-tea, mineral water-soft drinks-fruit juices.
• 1.8% in the Alcohol group drinks and tobacco, due to an increase in prices mainly in alcoholic beverages (not served).
• 2.7% in the Clothing and footwear group, due to an increase in prices in clothing and footwear.
• 31.4 % in the Housing group, due to price increases mainly in: house rents (!!!), home repair and maintenance, electricity, natural gas, heating oil, solid fuels.
• 9.5% in the Durable goods group– Household items and services, mainly due to price increases in: furniture and decorative items, household textile products, household appliances and repairs, glassware-tableware and household utensils, household consumer goods, household services.
• 2 .7% in the Health group, due to price increases mainly in: pharmaceutical products, medical products, medical, dental and paramedical services, hospital care.
• 16.0% in the Transport group, due to price increases mainly in: new cars, used cars, mopeds – motorcycles, car parts and accessories, fuel and lubricants, maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment, taxi tickets, plane tickets, ferry tickets.
• 2 .3% in the Leisure-Cultural activities group, due to price increases mainly in: leisure and cultural durables, small leisure items-flowers-pets, cinemas-theatres, stationery and design materials, package holidays. Part of this increase was offset by a decrease in prices mainly in audio-visual equipment – computers – repairs.
• 0.9% in the Education group, due mainly to a price increase in secondary education fees.
• 6.7 % in the Hotels-Cafes-Restaurants group, mainly due to price increases in: restaurants-patisseries-cafes, hotels-motels-inns.
• 3.7% in the Other goods and services group, mainly due to price increases in : hair salons and personal care stores, other personal care items.
