To the Mayor of Thessaloniki Mr. Konstantinos Zervas

COMMUNITY: President of the Municipal Council Mr. Petros Lekakis

Deputy Mayor of Finance Mr. Michael Kupkas

General Secretary of the Municipality of Thessaloniki Mr. Nikolaos Liakopoulos

Subject : REDUCTION OF MUNICIPAL CLEANING-LIGHTING FEES OF THESSALONIKI FOR 2023.

Dear Mayor

In view of the preparation of the budget of the Municipality of Thessaloniki for the upcoming fiscal year 2023, we would like to express our views regarding the municipal cleaning and lighting fees of the Municipality of Thessaloniki.

The annual cleaning and lighting fees are an unaffordable amount, not only for households but also for the businesses of our city, especially today when the cost of electricity, whose bills municipal fees are collected, it has skyrocketed.

For these reasons we propose for the next fiscal year 2023, which will also be a year of extraordinary difficulties and recovery efforts , for the Municipality of Thessaloniki to support citizens and businesses, following the example of the Municipality of Athens, by reducing the annual household and professional cleaning and lighting fees, respectively, by 5% while maintaining at the same time the applicable household fee reductions for large families and other vulnerable groups and the per K.A.D. and per use applicable special reductions in professional fees.

These reductions are entirely feasible, given that:

  1. It has already been adopted and the proposal of POMIDA to the Government for the voluntary declaration of the undeclared legalized areas of buildings without retroactive charges has been implemented for three years, with the result that the Municipality of Thessaloniki collects increased revenues from the declared millions of square meters of buildings that now pay municipal fees,
  2. With the recent increase in the objective values, the income from the TAP also increased and
  3. Since the implementation of the Municipality’s program for saving energy in the municipal lighting with almost zero consumption LED lamps, significantly limiting the expenditure of municipal lighting.

It is true, Mr. Mayor, that the Municipality of Thessaloniki is carrying out an extremely important and at the same time difficult task.

We ask you, Mr. Mayor, to respond positively to our fair request, with the certainty that such a decision of yours will be highly appreciated by our organization and all the citizens of Thessaloniki!

For the Board of Directors

The PRESIDENT GEN. SECRETARY

Konstantinos A. Chaidoutis Evangelos I. Minas
